SUMMARY:Ocean Visions Biennial Summit 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Ocean Visions Biennial Summit 2023 will be a significant opportunity to advance the sharing of knowledge and solutions to critical challenges at the ocean-climate nexus. \nThe ocean is under threat from a host of pressures\, but none loom larger than those caused by greenhouse gas pollution\, which drives overheating and acidification. Ocean heating is in turn causing deoxygenation\, sea level rise\, and disruption of critical marine ecosystem functions and services. \nIn order to address this ocean-climate crisis\, the world needs to generate and scale innovative solutions much more effectively and quickly. \nSummit participants will share and discuss cutting-edge advancements in ocean sciences\, engineering\, policy\, governance\, and economics that support trajectory-changing solutions to the dangerous climate impacts on the ocean within 7-10 years. \nThe Summit will be held at Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta\, Georgia and online everywhere from 4-6 April 2023. We welcome a diversity of solutions-oriented participants\, including scientists\, academics\, policymakers\, entrepreneurs\, those with indigenous knowledge of oceans and solutions\, innovators\, and funders. \nAbout Ocean Visions \nOcean Visions is a non-profit organization that catalyzes innovative solutions at the intersection of the ocean and climate crises by leading and facilitating multisector collaborations from within our Network and beyond. We work on interconnected ocean and climate issues with leading research institutions\, the private sector\, and public-interest organizations to more fully explore and advance responsible and effective ocean-based climate solutions that can help stabilize the climate and restore ocean health. To learn more\, visit www.oceanvisions.org or follow @Ocean_Visions on Twitter. \nDates: 4-6 April 2023\nLocation: Atlanta\, GA\, US

SUMMARY:Protect our oceans: the challenge of Europe's global leadership
DESCRIPTION:The Aix-Marseille University’s second European Conference will be held on Wednesday 16 June 2021 at the European Committee of the Regions (J. Delors Building\, rue Belliard 99-101\, 1040 Brussels\, Belgium).  \n As one of the first contributions to the 2021-2030 United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development\, the European Conference will take place the week following the 2021 World Oceans Day\, at a time when global ocean governance is at a critical juncture. \n• How can the European Union rely on the latest scientific developments and oceanographic data to help achieve ambitious goals in intergovernmental negotiations?• How can science help prevent an irreversible threat to biodiversity due to contaminant dispersal? How can ocean science contribute to better forecast\, mitigate and adapt to climate change?• How can we achieve a sustainable ocean economy while preserving and protecting marine ecosystems? \nBy bringing together leading scientists\, European policy makers\, key players in ocean governance and representatives of civil society\, the event will nurture discussions at the frontier between science and technology\, bridging scientific progress to policy actions and advances in ocean literacy. \nMORE INFO

SUMMARY:Kick-off Conference of the the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development
DESCRIPTION:The ocean is the largest ecosystem on Earth and central to the survival of nature and humankind. But the ocean is also under massive threat. More than ever before\, science and research are being called upon to join forces with policymakers\, society and economic actors to protect and sustainably manage the ocean. To achieve this vision\, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2021 to 2030 as the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development – the “Ocean Decade”. \nWith the cancellation of the in-person sessions of the First International Ocean Decade Conference in consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic that were originally planned for May – June 2021\, you are invited to celebrate the start of the Ocean Decade with a series of re-structured virtual and hybrid events starting from June 2021 to mid-2022. \nJoin a collective global movement to create the Ocean we Want! \nA prominent virtual opening at 1st of  June 2021 marks the official start of the series of events that will make up the re-structured First International Ocean Decade Conference. Engage with world leaders and other stakeholders from diverse stakeholder groups including science\, industry\, UN agencies\, philanthropy\, governments\, NGOs\, civil society and community leaders\, media\, and arts and humanities. \n“Ocean Decade Laboratories” will provide interactive sessions from mid-2021 until mid-2022 to catalyze partnerships and co-design Decade Actions. The seven participatory Laboratories will foster dialogue on overarching Ocean Decade themes: inclusivity\, solutions-based ocean science\, regional action\, and resource mobilization\, among others.   \nClick here to get more information about the event.
