SUMMARY:Virtual Workshop on the New Global Ocean Biogeochemistry (GO-BGC) Array
DESCRIPTION:Building a Community of Biogeochemistry Float Data Users\nThe Global Ocean Biogeochemistry (GO-BGC) array is a 5-year effort funded by the US National Science Foundation to produce and deploy 500 profiling floats equipped with biogeochemical sensors in the world ocean.  Deployments will begin in the first quarter of 2021. To inform and engage a broad oceanographic user community\, the Ocean Carbon & Biogeochemistry (OCB) and the US Climate Variability and Predictability (CLIVAR) Programs are working with GO-BGC leadership to plan a virtual GO-BGC Scientific Workshop from June 28-30\, 2021. The objectives of the workshop are to: \n\nIntroduce the GO-BGC plan to the global scientific community\nDiscuss and innovate on scientific applications of GO-BGC data\nProvide background information on the flow of data and archiving\nDeliver hands-on tutorials and computer code for accessing GO-BGC data\n\nPresentations and discussions will be scheduled for 3-4 hours on each day.  Some pre-recorded presentations will be available online prior to each day’s events\, so that participants can consider discussion items before the meeting. The organizers look forward to a large online participation in the meeting as this new\, multi-year program gets underway. \nRead the activity proposal

SUMMARY:Underwater Acoustics Conference 6 Exhibition 2021
DESCRIPTION:UACE2021 provides a forum for exchange of recent research results\, for discussion of future challenges in implementation and application of underwater acoustic technologies\, and the conference displayed the latest advances in instrumentation. \nThe virtual conference will comprise a prominent series of structured oral sessions with invited papers given by leading international scientists. These Structured Sessions will be organized by key persons actively engaged at the forefronts of research in underwater acoustics. In addition\, most recent research results will be presented in contributed papers forming the basis for regular oral sessions. \nThe virtual conference will be similar to previous in-person UACE conferences. Presentations will be assembled in four parallel sessions according to a topic and they will be assigned a virtual lecture room. A chairperson will coordinate each session. All registered attendees can attend any session and switch from session to session at will. A dedicated app (desktop or mobile) will be used by registered participants to access the virtual conference platform\, attend a session and visit the e-exhibition. \nFurther Information: Available from the conference website.

SUMMARY:Protect our oceans: the challenge of Europe's global leadership
DESCRIPTION:The Aix-Marseille University’s second European Conference will be held on Wednesday 16 June 2021 at the European Committee of the Regions (J. Delors Building\, rue Belliard 99-101\, 1040 Brussels\, Belgium).  \n As one of the first contributions to the 2021-2030 United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development\, the European Conference will take place the week following the 2021 World Oceans Day\, at a time when global ocean governance is at a critical juncture. \n• How can the European Union rely on the latest scientific developments and oceanographic data to help achieve ambitious goals in intergovernmental negotiations?• How can science help prevent an irreversible threat to biodiversity due to contaminant dispersal? How can ocean science contribute to better forecast\, mitigate and adapt to climate change?• How can we achieve a sustainable ocean economy while preserving and protecting marine ecosystems? \nBy bringing together leading scientists\, European policy makers\, key players in ocean governance and representatives of civil society\, the event will nurture discussions at the frontier between science and technology\, bridging scientific progress to policy actions and advances in ocean literacy. \nMORE INFO

SUMMARY:Kick-off Conference of the the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development
DESCRIPTION:The ocean is the largest ecosystem on Earth and central to the survival of nature and humankind. But the ocean is also under massive threat. More than ever before\, science and research are being called upon to join forces with policymakers\, society and economic actors to protect and sustainably manage the ocean. To achieve this vision\, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2021 to 2030 as the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development – the “Ocean Decade”. \nWith the cancellation of the in-person sessions of the First International Ocean Decade Conference in consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic that were originally planned for May – June 2021\, you are invited to celebrate the start of the Ocean Decade with a series of re-structured virtual and hybrid events starting from June 2021 to mid-2022. \nJoin a collective global movement to create the Ocean we Want! \nA prominent virtual opening at 1st of  June 2021 marks the official start of the series of events that will make up the re-structured First International Ocean Decade Conference. Engage with world leaders and other stakeholders from diverse stakeholder groups including science\, industry\, UN agencies\, philanthropy\, governments\, NGOs\, civil society and community leaders\, media\, and arts and humanities. \n“Ocean Decade Laboratories” will provide interactive sessions from mid-2021 until mid-2022 to catalyze partnerships and co-design Decade Actions. The seven participatory Laboratories will foster dialogue on overarching Ocean Decade themes: inclusivity\, solutions-based ocean science\, regional action\, and resource mobilization\, among others.   \nClick here to get more information about the event.
