The High Pressure Team, led by Jorge Saraiva, a professor from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aveiro (UA), is collaborating with the NAUTILOS project.

In this initiative, the team is using equipment to test the behavior of prototype devices under high pressure, up to 2000 meters deep. These devices, designed to measure various marine parameters, will be attached to three species of marine animals: the blue shark, the bluntnose sixgill shark, and the manta ray. Developed to cause minimal disturbance to the animals, the devices, which integrate multiple sensors, detach after 24 to 48 hours and are retrieved through satellite or radio detection. These operations will be carried out in the waters surrounding the Azores.
