Meet our WP12 Leader!
Name: Dr Eva Chatzinikolaou
Institution: Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC) – Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR)
My role in Nautilos: I am leading WP12 that aims to establish synergies for the ECPCE (European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy) through collaborations with other projects and initiatives, development of citizen science activities and knowledge transfer to relevant stakeholders, always focused on ocean plastic pollution. I am also leading Task 10.4, also related to citizen science activities, which in this case includes crowd-sourcing for visual marine underwater image annotations and creation of a diving associations network for marine data collection using novel low-cost sensors.
Who am I: I am a marine biologist working as a research associate in IMBBC and my research focus on climate change, ocean acidification, marine biodiversity and intertidal ecology. I am combining marine ecology with image analysis, micro-CT tomography and geometric morphometrics. During my PhD I studied population dynamics, ageing, reproduction, development and marine pollution in marine gastropods. I am also the scientific coordinator of the LifewatchGreece Research Infrastructure (ERFI) that is hosting biodiversity data and virtual services. I have great experience in environmental education and citizen science awareness actions. My personal hobbies include photography, diving and drumming.
